Help! In-Laws Prioritizing Car Over Grandchild Visit

Hey everyone,

I really need some advice and maybe a bit of a vent. My name’s Leah, and I’m in a bit of a pickle with my in-laws. My husband, Gary, and I have a beautiful baby girl, Anna. We were really excited for Gary’s parents, Gerald and Victoria, to meet her. But things have gotten super complicated.

So, here’s the deal. Gerald and Victoria have this old car that they absolutely adore. It’s like their baby or something. Recently, Gary asked them for some help with a small financial issue we were having. Nothing major, just a little support to get us through a rough patch. But they flat-out refused, saying they needed the money for the car’s maintenance. I mean, seriously? A car over your own son and granddaughter?

Now, I’m feeling really hurt and angry. I don’t want to let them see Anna because I feel like if they can’t prioritize their own family over a car, then why should they get the joy of being around our little one? Gary is caught in the middle and doesn’t know what to do either. He understands my feelings but also doesn’t want to completely cut off his parents.

What would you guys do in this situation? Am I being too harsh? Should I just let it go and let them see Anna, or should I stand my ground? Any advice would be super appreciated!

Thanks a ton,

Leah
