“You Have to Sign Everything Over to Me! Why Did You Believe Her? She’s Trying to Scam You!”: Yelled Larry
Winter had settled in, blanketing the small town in a thick layer of snow. The late evening air was crisp and cold, seeping through the cracks of the old house. Madeline had just put her daughter, Willow, to bed. The little girl had finally drifted off to sleep after a long day of playing in the snow. Madeline tiptoed out of Willow’s room and headed to the kitchen to brew herself a cup of tea.
The house was eerily quiet now, a stark contrast to the bustling home it used to be. Just a few months ago, Madeline’s life was filled with the laughter and chaos of a big family. But everything changed when her husband, Bryan, called her one evening and shattered her world.
“I’m not coming home,” Bryan had said, his voice devoid of emotion. “Ever. I’ve fallen in love with someone else.”
Madeline had suspected for a while that Bryan was seeing someone else. The late nights at work, the secretive phone calls, and the distant look in his eyes were all signs she couldn’t ignore. But hearing him say it out loud was like a punch to the gut.
She had tried to hold it together for Willow’s sake, but the pain was overwhelming. Bryan had left without a second thought, leaving Madeline to pick up the pieces of their shattered life.
As she poured hot water over the tea bag, Madeline’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door slamming open. She turned around to see her son, Larry, storming into the kitchen, his face red with anger.
“You have to sign everything over to me!” Larry yelled, his voice echoing through the empty house.
Madeline’s heart sank. She had always known that Larry had a temper, but she had never seen him this furious before.
“Why did you believe her? She’s trying to scam you!” Larry continued, his eyes blazing with fury.
Madeline took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. “Larry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Gabriella! She’s been filling your head with lies! She wants to take everything from you!” Larry shouted.
Madeline felt a pang of guilt. Gabriella was her best friend and had been a pillar of support since Bryan left. She couldn’t believe that Gabriella would do something like that.
“Larry, Gabriella has been nothing but kind to us,” Madeline said softly.
“Kind? She’s manipulating you! She wants you to sign everything over to her so she can take it all!” Larry’s voice was shaking with rage.
Madeline felt tears welling up in her eyes. She didn’t know what to believe anymore. The betrayal from Bryan was still fresh, and now her own son was accusing her best friend of deceit.
“Larry, please calm down,” Madeline pleaded.
“Calm down? How can I calm down when you’re about to lose everything?” Larry’s voice cracked with emotion.
Madeline felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her. She had been trying so hard to keep everything together for Willow’s sake, but it felt like everything was falling apart.
“Larry, I need you to trust me,” Madeline said quietly.
Larry shook his head, his eyes filled with disappointment. “I can’t believe you’re choosing her over your own son.”
With that, Larry turned and stormed out of the house, leaving Madeline standing alone in the kitchen. The silence was deafening as she sank into a chair, tears streaming down her face.
She didn’t know what the future held, but one thing was certain: her family would never be the same again.
