I spent the better part of my life working overseas, earning well but always missing my children and family back in the U.S. I constantly reminded myself that I was doing this solely for them—to secure a decent life that only I could provide. As the years wore on, the physical toll of work grew heavier, and my longing to return home intensified. But when I finally did, the welcome I hoped for was nowhere to be found.
